Implementation of mBank’s New Website

The Challenge
mBank is one of the leaders in digital banking in Poland, serving millions of customers, including over 2 million “mobile-only” users. The bank’s informational website records an average of 12 million page views per month.
In response to evolving technological and user expectations, mBank decided to modernize its website. With the rapid increase in content consumption on mobile devices, it became essential to design the website with a mobile-first approach focused on delivering a seamless experience for mobile users. The website also needed to meet accessibility standards for users with special needs, in line with WCAG 2.2 guidelines.
The goal was to build a new cloud-based website that would load faster and be less prone to slowdowns during peak login times or outages.
- Evolution, not revolution / It was crucial to modernize the navigation while maintaining a consistent visual identity and an intuitive user interface.
- Designed in line with the latest trends / Visually, the new website was intended to reflect current design trends. Content presentation, especially for banking products and services, had to be clean, consistent, and easy to understand.
- Additionally, depending on user preference, the site needed to support both light and dark modes. Features like a sticky menu and anchor links to specific sections were introduced to ensure smooth navigation, particularly on mobile devices.
- Faster content publishing with a headless CMS / To optimize editors’ workflows, a new approach to content creation and publishing was required based on a headless CMS architecture.
The Solution
- New architecture and website responsiveness / The site was designed using a mobile-first model—meaning the mobile version was developed first, followed by the desktop version. This ensures a smooth and convenient experience for users on smartphones and tablets.
- Compliance with WCAG 2.2 standards / The project team adapted the site to meet WCAG 2.2 guidelines, focusing on content legibility, intuitive navigation, and compatibility with assistive technologies for users with special needs.
- Cloud migration / Migrating the site to the cloud enabled faster page load times, improved service stability, and better scalability during traffic spikes.
- UX and UI optimization / Enhancements included a sticky menu, anchor links to key sections, and a clear content layout aligned with the “mKanon” – mBank’s plain language principles. Modern technologies were applied to improve the overall user experience.
- Modern technologies and CMS / The implemented CMS supports easy integration with analytics tools and A/B testing. The MACH architecture ensures flexibility and allows for seamless replacement of individual system components.
- Faster page publishing / By using partial SSG (Server Side Generation), only selected pages are regenerated instead of the entire website—greatly reducing the time needed for content updates.
- Improved availability and stability / Thanks to SSG, the website remains accessible even in the event of CMS issues. Static page generation prevents overloads and enhances performance.
- Extended CMS capabilities / Custom modules were added for content version control, managing calculators and documents, integrating with external data repositories, and administering the site’s architecture.
- Modern search engine / A distributed full-text search system was implemented, indexing pages based on generated HTML documents. The new CMS, combined with dedicated plugins, enables efficient content management.
