Scalable B2B E-Commerce System for Multiple Nordic Markets
The Challenge
Techstep AB operates across Europe with a strategic focus on Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. In the Nordic region, the company provides mobile devices, such as phones, tablets, and laptops, to business and institutional customers, together with managed mobility services and consultancy.
As part of a broader digital transformation program, Techstep wanted to simplify its IT landscape and improve how it handled online sales. Before the project started, individual markets were served by local entities, several ERP systems, and three legacy B2B e-commerce platforms with overlapping functionality. This setup made further development harder, increased operational complexity, and limited Techstep’s ability to create a consistent B2B buying experience across markets.
Techstep needed one modern e-commerce solution that would allow the company to gradually replace its legacy systems and create a stable foundation for further consolidation. Univio’s role was to design and deliver the first version of the new B2B e-commerce platform, enabling Techstep to complete one of the key stages of its transformation: replacing the legacy ERP system and the existing e-commerce solution in one selected market without disrupting ongoing sales.
- One of the main challenges was to replace fragmented legacy B2B e-commerce platforms with one modern solution ready to support multiple markets.
- It was essential to support Techstep’s digital transformation without disrupting customer service or the order process.
- The project required a platform that could serve Techstep’s current and future markets, including support for white-label sellers.
- A key goal was to enable Techstep to decommission one of its legacy ERP systems and the related e-commerce platform within the agreed timeline.
- It was also important to relieve Techstep’s internal team, which was working on other key initiatives as part of the company’s wider digital transformation.
The Solution
- Univio delivered a B2B e-commerce platform based on commercetools. The solution was designed as a unified foundation for online sales, which Techstep can further develop across additional markets and use to fully replace its two remaining e-commerce platforms.
- The composable commerce architecture made it possible to build a modular solution that can be developed in stages, without the need to rebuild the entire system every time a major business requirement changes. This gives Techstep a more controlled way to add new features, markets, and sales models.
- In the first stage of the project, Univio delivered an MVP that enabled Techstep to decommission the legacy ERP system and the existing e-commerce platform serving one of its markets.
- The new platform gave B2B customers a more convenient buying experience, with a clearer interface and a better-structured order process.
- Univio provided a dedicated agile development team. This allowed Techstep’s internal team to focus on strategic parts of the transformation, rather than being pulled into every technical detail of the implementation.
- The platform was built using technologies aligned with Techstep’s existing technology stack, including commercetools, Okta, AngularJS, and a .NET/C# backend hosted on Microsoft Azure.
- The project also used commercetools GraphQL APIs and Okta for e-commerce customer identity management.
- The MVP was delivered within the agreed timeline, allowing Techstep to complete the first practical stage of consolidation and move to the new solution without disruption for customers.
